Not necessarily. Based on the size, location, symptoms and complications associated, stones may be treated medically also. many times, medical management clears stones faster.
Mostly endoscopic stone surgeries are done as a single session. Only in very chllenging situations, the procedure may have to be staged.
After RIRS, URS (endoscopic surgeries), Patient is able to walk the next day. Discharge is the next day itself, this is a great advantage compared to open surgery where hospital stay of atleast 4-5 days may be needed. Leave from work is also very less in endoscopy.
Our youngest stone surgery was in a one and half year old with 20 mm size stone, while the oldest was in a 90 year old patient with 24. We take care of patients of all age groups.
